STEMM Girls:Merck Online Tour

On December 13th, Merck China hosted a highly interactive virtual tour for students from three Beijing schools participating in the STEM Women's Program (DCB (Dewey International School of Beijing), CISB (Canadian International School of Beijing) and Keystone Academy).

Ms. Ying Fu, Partner of Merck's DE&I practice in China, welcomed the students and teachers and introduced representatives from Merck and WEC. She invited the students to take an online test based on their prior knowledge of Merck. An introductory video was then shared to help students learn more about Merck as a dynamic technology company.

Students then participated in a fun group activity that provided real-world experience in building a company's organizational structure based on how they thought different functions should collaborate to support and drive the business. Student representatives from each group shared the final organizational chart with the entire group and the reasons for their decisions.

Next, several female Merck leaders presented their backgrounds, daily routines, and career stories, including Xiaoyu Ma and Changning from Healthcare and China R&D, Xiaoyu Cui from Life Sciences, Jiajia from Electronics, and steffi Wang from Human Resources. after the insightful presentations, the leaders went into different rooms and allowed the students to participate in a Q&A session to fulfill their curiosity and interest.

Through the two-hour virtual visit, students gained first-hand experience and real insights into how STEMM jobs work in practice, learned about Merck and the science and technology industry, and came into direct contact with inspirational female role models.
