Organized a women's speed talk breakfast

On March 10, the New Zealand Consulate General in Shanghai and the Canadian Consulate General in Shanghai co-hosted a Women's Speed Talk Breakfast to celebrate International Women's Day 2023. The event, held at the New Zealand Centre, brought women together to share positive gender-related stories to help women grow themselves in their careers and beyond.

Ms. Diane Ho from the Shanghai Women's Empowerment Committee was the guest speaker for the event. Based on the fact that 2020-2022 will be a particularly challenging time for many, Diane's sharing focused on empowering women in the workplace from a health and well-being perspective.

So what is empowerment?Diane shared that empowerment means that people have power and control over their lives. People have access to support that is right for them. Empowerment means that people are equal citizens. They are respected and feel confident in their communities.
Why is empowering women important? UN Women states that empowering women promotes economic diversification and income equality and supports overall economic growth. But women in the workplace are more overworked and exhausted than ever, even though a variety of policies exist to promote equality in the workplace. One way to improve health and well-being is to focus on "managing energy, not time" - measured across the four dimensions of spiritual, emotional, physical health and mental well-being. diane invites all women to take the time to care for themselves and to feel better about themselves. happiness.
The Speed Networking session followed the guest sharing, where guests were able to talk to each other, make new contacts, and discuss the challenges women may face in the workplace; how to leverage networking; and how to empower each other in the workplace to support the health and well-being of their fellow female coworkers. Each round was 5 minutes long, making a total of 6 rounds of Speed Talks, which became the most enthusiastic part of the event.
